A largely forested and mountainous country where melons can sell for $200; yes, really! A place where Geishas arrange flowers or perform ceremonies. A place where their recycling is taken to art form in Kintsugi. Also a place where there is a vending machine for every 25 people selling some of the most weird and wonderful things you can imagine.

But of course this is also the country of the beautiful cherry blossom and astonishingly coloured autumn leaves. A land dominated by mountains, the greatest of all Mount Fuji. A place best known for its sushi and sumo, but where myriad other delights are in store.
