Kenya
Kenya is perhaps best known for its amazing Maasai people, dressed in vibrant colours as well as being a World Leading Safari Destination. It is also home to two (now famous thanks to social media) wonderful elephant sanctuaries: The Sheldrick Trust in Nairobi (to where King Charles recently paid a visit) and Reteti, a slightly lesser known sanctuary.
In terms of game viewing, it’s one of the best. Hunting of any protected animal is illegal and in Kenya you can find the Big Five (the term used to denote the five animals which game hunters found the most difficult to hunt)
Home to the Rift Valley, formed over 25 million years ago, it’s perhaps not surprising that Kenya also has a large human fossilised collection including some that date back 7 million years.
Kenya has an excellent number of superb lodges thanks to its long-standing popularity as a safari destination, and we also have a variety of options depending upon your budget. And of course, it is home to the Maasai Mara National Reserve, a stunning place in which to view the animals and spectacular landscape as well as being host to the Great Migration when it welcomes 1.5m wildebeests from July to October each year. And if you don’t fancy seeing it all from the ground, you have the opportunity to view it from another perspective, from above via a hot air balloon; a truly breathtaking experience.
And should you wish to combine with another country, we would suggest a Kenyan/Ugandan trip or Kenya/Tanzania.
